    I am NOT a Couch Potato

    I am a Chair Pear That is not to say I have a pear shape, just that I sit for more hours in a day than I care to add up. Due to their shape, Pears can sit nicely. And the word happens to rhyme with Chair, so when the concept popped into my head during my morning routine, I knew that is what I am. A Chair Pear. Chair Pears are mentally active, just not physically active. I’m a Chair Pear, not a Couch Potato. My route to Chair Peardom, as I call it, was straightforward. I am a writer. To be a writer one must sit, and sit for long stretches at a time. In the morning, I grab a cup of tea and wander into my home office and play a solitaire game to wake up the brain cells while the tea cools to a drinkable temperature.…

    A Chair Pear Adventure

    A few years ago, when I signed up for ANOTHER fitness challenge, I thought about my personal challenge with fitness. I knew I wasn’t a couch potato. Who had time for lounging on the couch watching TV? Not me. But I wasn’t the picture of health and vitality either, and frankly, I didn’t (and still don’t) enjoy the gym culture.  I decided I was more a Chair Pear than a Couch Potato. While my body did not get up and move, my mind was active. Okay, so I have an active mind. Great! Now, what about the rest of me? Time to put that “active” mind to work. I’ve thought about what it means to be a Chair Pear. How “Chair Peardom” (as I refer to it) is a way of life for many of us. We enjoy activities that do not require us to move, or even stand up.…
